For you, we took a walk through the popular Rijeka market, or "placa" as Rijeka people call it, and made sure that it is rightly reputed as one of the best in the country.

Although nowadays tomatoes are available all year round, their season is right now when they are ripe, sweet, and red. They are the best raw, with a grain of salt and a drop of olive oil. But it is also fantastic in salsa, thick soups, salads, on focaccias and pizzas, in parmigiana, and in thousands of other recipes where it is irreplaceable.
